3. Callaway Strata Men’s Golf Set
Selling Points
-
Best known beginner set for quality
-
Steel Shafted Irons perfect for distance
-
large heads & wide soles for incredible forgiveness
What You Get In The Bag
With this set you’ll get a 460cc titanium driver, 3-wood, a hybrid 5-wood, a set of irons (6-PW), a pitching wedge and a putter. Also comes with head covers and rain hood for the bag.
Key Features
You can’t go wrong with Callaway as a first set, and this is a great price for a starter set with it being Callaway.
The driver is going to make you feel like Dustin Johnson out there with the distance you can get…that’s if you connect with it the way you want.
But with it being a 460cc, it has a big head to it and allows you to maximize your ball speed and get more distance than most other drivers.
The hybrid is my favorite part. You’re probably not a big hitter and will be in the rough a lot with 200+ yard shots. That’s where the 5-hybrid comes in.
It will “rescue” you out of trouble and then some. It has a good bit of loft to it so you get some air. Not to mention it has a great sweet spot.
The 3-wood is okay, but not my favorite. You just don’t get the loft as you do the other hybrids and clubs in the bag.
The irons are really comfortable, though, which is important for a new set. You should like the feel of them and will get the most out of your shots.
Even if you don’t hit them the best, it will give you a better result than you think.
While I do wish you got a sand wedge with these clubs, I do like the putter. It pops off the face really nice. A little springy at first, but you’ll adjust. Better to be springy than dull.
Composition And Options
The Driver, Woods & Hybrids come with Graphite shafts and the Irons have steel shafts while all clubs have regular flex.
You can get the set in a 12, 14 or 16 piece set while we recommend at the least the 14 piece.
Pros
- Great driver that will give you lots of distance
- Hybrid can rescue you out of tough situations
- Strong and sturdy bag
- Irons have great precision
- Putter
Cons
- 3-wood is hard to adjust to
- Steel Shafts wont suit the slowest swing speeds
- Bag is a little heavy
Overall Score: 98/100

6. Precise M5 Men’s Complete Golf Clubs Package Set
What it comes with: You’ll get a 460cc titanium driver, fairway wood, hybrid, set of irons (5 iron to PW) and a putter. You also get a stand bag and 3 head covers.
Our take: The woods all have oversized heads which means you’re going to get maximum distance and a nice sweet spot that deviates from just the very middle. Are you the type of person to struggle to get the ball air born? These clubs are offset which means you can hit it straighter and higher.
The irons have some of the best shafts you will find and forgives you on bad shots. The irons include 100% temper steel. While it doesn’t have a sand wedge, it does include a pitching wedge that is very comfortable and has plenty of loft to it.
Pros
- Oversized club heads give you more distance and larger sweet spot
- Offset allows for more loft
- Head covers for the woods
- Bag is easy to set up and carry
Cons
- Only one hybrid and no sand wedge included
- Bag shows some wear and tear after use
- For beginners, it will take time to get used to oversized heads.

7. Palm Springs Golf Visa V2 Men’s All Graphite Club Set & Stand Bag
What it comes with: 460cc oversized driver, 3-wood, 3 and 4 hybrid, 6 irons (5-PW), putter, bag and head covers.
Our take: The first thing that stood out to me was the 15-degree 3-wood. I’m usually not a fan of 3-woods as I can’t get good trajectory on them and mishit them, but this one is forgiving and gives you some loft. It also has a large sweet spot, as does the driver, which like the other drivers in this review, is oversized with lots of power. The hybrids also are very comfortable.
If you like lower centers of gravity, you will like these irons. They are graphite shafts and feature a cavity back design. They connect with the ball really nice. It feels like you hit the sweet spot even on shots you don’t connect well with.
The putter has a little bit of weight on the bottom but comes off the clubface nicely. The bag has a 7-way divider that has lots of storage and comes with a dual strap and stand.
Pros
- 3-wood has better trajectory than a lot of 3-woods
- Cavity-back design irons that have large sweet spot
- Oversized driver gives you lots of distance
Cons
- Hybrids take some time getting used to
- No sand wedge in the bag
Overall Score: 96/100

8. Wilson Ultra Men’s Complete Package
What It Comes With: A Titanium composite 460cc driver, a fairway wood, a high-launch 5-hybrid, stainless steel irons (6-PW), a heel-toe weighted putter, lightweight bag and head covers. The XD Ultra set contains a sand wedge.
Our take: Wilson may not be as good a brand as Callaway, but it’s reputable especially with beginner sets. Another great driver in the bag, It flies off the club face and has a huge sweet spot. If you miss the center a little bit, you still will get that distance.
The best part of this set really is the irons. You can’t go wrong with stainless steel. If you miss a shot, they are forgiving. They have a nice feel in your hands and will help your game tremendously. They have extreme perimeter weighting allowing for more accuracy and a pretty nice feel.
Unlike the Callaway set, you will get good height on your 3-wood shots, and as a result, a little more distance on softer layouts. It’s worth mentioning the bag it comes with. It is maybe the best beginner bag out there. It’s very lightweight and sturdy. Plus, it has lots of storage room.
Pros
- Driver has big sweet spot and gives you long distance
- Three-wood has good loft to it
- Stainless steel irons packed with precision
- Bag is lightweight and has lots of storage room
Cons
- Putter is a bit light and unbalanced
- Too big a gap between the hybrid and the 6-iron
- Price is a little high for beginner set
Overall Score: 90/100

9. PROSiMMON Golf X9 V2 Golf Clubs Set
What is comes with: 460cc titanium driver, fairway wood, 3 and 4 hybrids with steel shafts, 5-PW irons, sand wedge and mallet putter. Also comes with head covers.
Our take: These PROSIMMON clubs are suited for the taller beginners out there who can’t find a set to fit their size. The clubs play to their height. Brand-wise, you have probably never heard of it. I hadn’t until recently.
But just like our other beginner clubs, this has an oversized head with a large sweet spot. The oversized head will take some time getting used to for beginners, but once you do get used to it, you won’t want to put it away. You’ll bomb it out there.
The hybrids have a good amount of loft to them, so if you’re one of those golfers who is always in the rough, it will bail you out of jail. You also get a 5-iron which a lot of beginner sets don’t have, along with the 6,7,8,9 and pitching-wedge, all steel shafts.
This also comes with a sand wedge so you don’t have to worry about going out and buying one. The 56-degree wedge will help you with sand shots and flop shots where you have very little green to work with. You’ll look like Tiger out there nestling those greenside shots next to the cup.
The mallet putter is also oversized and is balanced to perfection. Personally, I enjoy the weight on the bottom as it’s easier to move the ball back and through, but everyone is different.
I have a hard time keeping lighter putters straight on the back swing. Are you a walker? The bag it comes with is fairly lightweight, includes head covers and has lots of pockets and room for storage.
Pros
- Suited for the tall players over 6’0
- Well-balanced putter
- Forgiving clubs for shots that are not struck right
- Driver gives you lots of distance
Cons
- A bit pricey for a beginner set of an unfamiliar brand
- Irons are a little smaller for the players over 6’3 compared to the woods and hybrids
Overall Score: 93/100

10. Wilson Golf Men’s 2017 Ultra Package Set, Right Hand, Red
What it comes with: With this set you’ll get a 460cc titanium driver, fariway wood, hyrid, 6-PW irons and a heel-toe putter. You also get a lightweight stand bag with head covers.
Our take: Very similar to the HD ultra set. There is a massive sweet spot on the driver with a big club head. You can put Rory McIlroy to shame. This allows you to bomb your drives, even if you miss the very middle of the club. With the woods, you’re going to get a lot of trajectory on your shots, more than a lot of other beginner clubs. The hybrid compliments this perfectly.
Just like the driver, the irons with this package have a large sweet spot. That allows for forgiveness when you mishit a shot. It will also keep the ball straighter than a lot of other irons.
The heel-toe putter is fairly light. For some, they will like this, but others like a more weighted end, so it is all up to your preferences. The bag is also really comfortable for those who walk. It has padded dual straps that make it easy to carry, it is lightweight and has lots of storage room.
Pros
- You will love this driver. Bombs away!
- Steel shaft irons keep the ball pretty straight even on bad shots
- Bag is light and easy to carry and comes with stand
- Good trajectory on woods, especially hybrids
Cons
- Distance gap between hybrid and 6 iron. May want to look at purchasing 4/5 irons.
- No sand wedge.
- Can be a bit pricey compared to other beginner sets
Overall Score: 89/100

11. Aspire X1 Men’s Complete Golf Set
What it comes with: 460cc titanium driver, fairway wood, hybrid, Irons (6-PW), putter, stand bag, head covers.
Our Take: For starters, if you’re tall and right-handed, these clubs are for you. It gears towards those golfers over 6’0. Also, if you love to bomb the ball and want distance, this driver will produce. A titanium driver with a big sweet spot, and a complimentary fairway wood that will also give you distance off the tee.
It comes with a set of irons that are temper steel shafts and have the cavity indent. They have a sweet spot which allows you to slightly miss a shot and get a good result. There is a bit of a difference between the hybrid and the 6-iron. If this is the case when testing out, you may want to look for a separate 4 and 5-iron.
A bit of a crazy-shaped putter. It’s weighted on the end, but I like the weight because it allows you to better control it on the back stroke. It keeps it straighter. The bag is super light weight almost to the point where you wonder if you’re even carrying a bag. It has a sturdy rain cover and head covers, too, for protection.
Pros
- Oversized head driver with big sweet spot
- Super lightweight bag
- Precision irons with temper steel shaft
- Hybrid has lots of loft
Cons
- They don’t produce a set for left-handers
- No sand wedge included
Overall Score: 91/100

12. Callaway Women’s Strata Plus Complete Set (14-piece, right hand, graphite)
What it comes with: 460cc driver, 3-wood, 5-wood, 5-hybrid, set of irons (6-SW), T-Styled Mallet Putter, Head covers, Stand bag.
Our Take: First thing I noticed is no 3-wood in the bag. Instead, you get a 5-wood. The downside to that is you may have a gap in distance between the driver and 5-wood. The good part is the 5-wood will give you more loft and more control than a fairway wood might. The 5-wood gets you a lot of trajectory with the Callaway set. You will also really like the hybrids because they allow you to get out of trouble and they have a great sweet spot to make your shots feel great. And they have precision.
The irons have perimeter weighting and progressive sole width technology. The weighting is good because it will help you with mishits, which as you know for being a new golfer, you will get a lot of them. It also includes a sand wedge to help you with flop shots and bunker shots.
When you’re a new golfer, you want a putter that helps you line up putts. The T-Mallet putter here is designed for that. It helps you a lot hit where you want to hit it. Just can’t promise you it’s going to go in. But it comes off the putter face really nice. As far as the bag is concerned, it’s very durable, light and easy to carry. It has dual straps so you can just walk and plop it on your back.
Pros
- Perimeter weighted irons are forgiving
- T-Mallet putter which helps yo line up putts
- Sand wedge for flop shots
- Driver and 5-wood both have great trajectory and distance
Cons
- No 3-wood
- Clubs are very light weight, which may bother some
Overall Score: 94/100

14. Wilson Golf Profile SGI Women’s Complete Golf Set with Bag
What It Comes With: 460cc titanium driver, 5-wood, stainless steel irons (6-PW), sand wedge and heel-toe putter.
Our take: Similar qualities to what you get with the men’s set so I won’t repeat them, except this is designed for females.
Grips are made to give a more comfortable feel on the club for the ladies. If you are new and struggling with your iron shots, this will help minimize your mistakes. You’ll think you hit a bad shot and it turns out not too bad.
Pros
- Stainless steel irons great for long distance shots
- Large driver that maximizes distance
- Gripping on ALL the clubs is comfortable and easy to handle
- Lightweight bag and well-padded
Cons
- No hybrids
- Distance gap between 5-wood and 6-iron
Overall Score: 91/100
