Bag Boy Nitron Golf Push Cart Review

It can be easy to get wrapped up in golf cart gimmicks that at the end of the day, aren’t really worth it. So we were a bit skeptical about this particular push cart. We thought the “Nitron” tag was just another gimmick and that it would be the same as every other push cart.

And while it’s hard to reinvent the wheel when it comes to golf push carts, there has to be a worthwhile improvement out there, right? With that tenuous belief we acquired and tested this push cart to see if it was all hype or if it was really brining something new and worthwhile to the table.

We put this push cart through its paces on two of our local golf courses for two full rounds of play. The following is what we found out about it.

The Key Features of the BagBoy Nitron Push Golf Cart

Let’s start with the basics. The BagBoy Nitron is a three-wheel push golf cart. There is a single wheel in front that is fixed in place (does not swivel) and two rear wheels that are set about 36 inches apart from each other. So a pretty wide stance which is good for stability.

The front wheel is 9 and a half inches in diameter and the rear wheels are a bit larger at 11 inches in diameter. They are made of hardened foam so you don’t have to worry about inflating them or any other kind of maintenance.

The rear wheels can be locked in place via a handbrake that is mounted just to the left of the handle bars.

The handle apparatus features a console on which a full scorecard can be held. There is also a drink holder, umbrella holder and a storage pouch under the handle for keeping other accessories.

But the real draw of the BagBoy Nitron is the Nitro Piston technology that powers the unfolding function. When you fold the BagBoy Nitron down, compressed air gets stored in piston lines. This compressed air is exerted when you pull the handle up to unfold the BagBoy Nitron.

It’s a pretty cool feature that actually makes unfolding the cart extremely easy. It literally springs itself to life and locks itself into position. You don’t have to break your back trying to unfold this push cart or lock it into place. It pretty much does all the work itself.

When it is folded down its pretty compact too. It’s just about 22 inches long, 19 inches wide and 13 inches tall when it’s in its storage/transportation position. And without any bags, balls, scorecards or accessories, it weighs just over 16 pounds.

Pros

• Unfolding it is virtually effortless
• It glides well across all kinds of terrain
• Plenty of storage space
• It can hold an umbrella
• Comes in a variety of colors
• Lightweight

Cons:

• The frame doesn’t seem to be very durable
• The front wheel does not swivel
• It’s a bit cumbersome when you have an umbrella attached to it
• Relatively expensive for a push cart of this nature

First Impressions

Our first impression of the BagBoy Nitron was that it was really easy to set up. We didn’t have to fumble around with a bunch of knobs or locks to get this thing ready to hit the course. We also noticed pretty much immediately that the BagBoy Nitron was very lightweight.

The design struck us as understated but somehow still modern. It looks sleek on the course.

 

Performance

Overall we like how the BagBoy Nitron worked on the courses we tried it on. The wheels were smooth and glided over the turf very easily. It didn’t take much effort to push the cart even with a full set of clubs in the bag and a bunch of accessories and knick-knacks in the storage pouch.

We also noticed that the wheels didn’t get sunk into the moist turf which we liked. A lot of times with heavier carts, the wheels get sort of stuck in moist turf and it’s hard to push it out. That wasn’t a problem with the lightweight frame of the BagBoy Nitron.

The brakes held strong when the cart was at rest and it held heavy bags pretty handily. The only gripes we had about its performance was that it was a bit hard to turn since the front will is fixed and it handled a bit clumsily when we had an umbrella in it.

 

Price Point

As far as push carts go, the BagBoy Nitron is a bit on the pricey side. You can expect to pay around $275 for it at most retailers.

Final Verdict

So is the BagBoy Nitron just another gimmicky push golf cart? We don’t think so. The compressed air feature delivers where a lot of golf carts fall short: easy setup. With just a light pull of the handle, the BagBoy Nitron whooshes into position and is ready to go.

It is a bit expensive and can get a bit cumbersome when there is an umbrella is in place, but we think these drawbacks are negligible in light of the ease of use factor. If you are looking for a good push cart that will let you focus on your game, we recommend.
