Adams Men’s Tight Lies Plus Golf Club Set Review – Good Clubs For Beginners
The funny thing about golf is that what you need when you are just starting out with the game is pretty much what you need when your golf career – whether professional, amateur or purely casual – is on it’s downswing, no pun intended.
Good flex, easy club head speed and clubs designed for slower swing speeds are all features that you want in a beginner’s golf club set. Incidentally, these are the same features that senior players typically opt for.
So for those of you who are finding that father time is catching up with you, and for the golfers who are just starting their journey, we have composed today’s review of one of the best complete golf club sets for beginners and seniors on the market.
You may have heard that Adams Tight Lies are high performing beginners clubs and want to find out a little more. This review is for you. Let’s get started.
Key Features & Benefits
The key benefits of the Adams Men’s Tight Lies Plus 1312 set are that they are built with high quality graphite shafts.
This is beneficial to beginners as you will garner more distance and ball speed from a graphite shaft with more flex than a steel shaft.
This is also highly beneficial for senior golfers with declining swing speeds for the same reason: you get more distance with less effort.
All in all, this club set was designed with beginners and senior players in mind.
What’s In The Bag?
As we touched on in the intro to this review, the Adams Men’s Tight Lies Plus 1312 set is a complete golf set. You get a total of 11 clubs in the set plus a hybrid cart/carry bag. Here is a breakdown of the clubs:
Driver
To begin with, you get the largest allowable driver size – 460cc. The driver is set to 12 degrees of loft so right from the tee, it will be easy to get a high launch angle. You get great distance and apex height from this club.
Fairway Woods
The Adams Men’s Tight Lies Plus 1312 set comes with a #3 fairway wood and a #5. Again, you get plenty of loft from these woods (15 degrees and 18 degrees respectively) and their aerodynamic head shape helps burgeoning swing speeds.
Hybrids
You get a #5 hybrid in the set which is helpful if you are having trouble working the longer irons. This #5 hybrid is very forgiving with an expanded sweet spot. It’s set to 25 degrees of loft.
Irons
You get irons 6-9 in the Adams Men’s Tight Lies Plus 1312 set so overall, pretty good gap coverage but obviously not the best.
But the perimeter weighting of the club heads and the pronounced hosel offset make them extremely forgiving.
You get decent loft from them but best of all, you get more accuracy on off-center shots. The 6 iron is set to 29, the 7 iron is set to 33, the 8 iron is set to 37, and the 9 iron is set to 41 degrees of loft.
Wedges
The Adams Men’s Tight Lies Plus 1312 set comes with a pitching wedge and a sand wedge.
The offset of the pitching wedge (45 degrees)makes it the perfect rescue iron and you get a Tom Watson signature sand wedge which features 56 degrees of loft.
Putter
Finally, you get a blade style putter in the Adams Men’s Tight Lies Plus 1312 set which provides 4 degrees of loft.
Club Composition
As far as how the clubs are made, Adams isn’t really breaking any new ground. But they do have everything that a neophyte or a golden years golfer needs.
All of the clubs save for the putter, irons and wedges are made from Supershaft graphite. The irons, putter and wedges have shafts made of stainless steel.
The club heads are also made of stainless steel with the putter head being made of special soft stainless steel. The grips that each club comes with are the standard Tight Lies grips from Adams.
Club Options
There is not a whole lot of wiggle room in terms of club options here. But again, remember that these clubs were designed very specifically for a small niche of golfers.
They come as a right-handed set and feature Adams Supershaft lightweight graphite and stainless steel shafts.
Swing Speed Fit
This set is definitely made for players with slow to moderate swing speeds. We’re talking golfers with swing speeds within the range of about 75 to 105 mph.
